Bandonkunhuay School

from my second day at Thailand, I got a chance to visit another school in Thailand. This school located quite far from my place, we can call it in remote area. Mostly people work as a farmer here.
When I heard about the story of this school, I feel like how lucky I am to have anything because education is not needed here. The children have no motivation to go to school because all that they wanted is only grow up and become a farmer (oh my…)

After that time, I planned to spend my last day to help, teach and give motivation to the student here about how important education is.
Time flies, I entered my last week at Thailand, I ask a permission to my host university Phetchaburi Rajhabat University and Aroonpradit school as my teaching practicum school to give me 2 days which are Thursday and Friday to teach for that poor students. (you know they are so nice and gave me that permission)
I went to Cha am (name of that place) at Wednesday evening. I spent 2 days teach there and I try to use fun method to make them happy and enjoy of my lesson.
I was really happy to meet them. I know they will success in the future, they were coming from poor family but they enthusiasm of learning impressed me.

I also learn so much from the Teachers here because they teach sincerely, they taught me be a role model for the student because student will copy everything what they see, so we must appear polite and say nothing but good words. What an amazing experience.a

Social activity

It's not easy to survive at Thailand for me, since English is not as daily language. It has its own language and alphabet. Most of information at the road is written in Thai alphabet. So I cannot ask to the public transportation drivers if I want to go somewhere by using English. It's pretty much look like Indonesia because we're also not as English speaking country, but with another difficulties such as It use another written form, so I cannot even read it moreover understand (sad).

glad that in my dormitory I got some friends (Students of PBRU) whom come from south area of Thailand. they use Malay language which is quite similar to Indonesian language (lol). I asked them to write down every addresses that I commonly go such as Aroonpradit (as my practicum school) and PBRU (my dorm location) in Thai written form. so I can show that to the driver (lol).

Mostly of south part of Thailand is Moslem, so I also asked them to tell me where is halal food, and they brought me to every Moslem places (also Masjid).

Every Thursday, they held an event of reading Al Qur'an together after Maghrib prayer for every Moslem students of PBRU. after that event, they asked me to share about my experience. they also asked me to teach them about English. as a foreigner, they treat me verry well (thank you guys).
I do really impressed of their will of learning English. every night, some of them come to my room to make a conversation in English as a practice they said.

It's kind of honor for me to see them fulfill their curiosity so hard and because they believe in me to help them. Alhamdulillah.

Teaching time

Time flies very fast, and it's already become my third week. and it's my teaching practicum time after observing at first week and teaching assistant at second week. although I observed every levels from kindergarten, elementary, junior, and senior high school. I teach only on senior high school as my chosen level while got an interview from my host university. Phetchaburi Rajabat University.

my focus is pronunciation and intonation. I gave them tongue twister in the beginning to help their tongue customise to pronounce every English words clearly and for daily exercise.

I start my class with greeting, checking attendance list and preview previous lesson. but before it start, I need to ask my students to collect their phone on my table.

my class is conversation class so I decided to use "Asking and giving direction" as my topic because it will be very useful for them if they want to go abroad (base on my experience lol)
I write my lesson plan and print it on after consulted with teacher Gine as my field menthor. I teach for 9 classes (yeayy thank you teacher Gine for trusted your class to me)

Observing another level part 2

Today I'm gonna talk about Teacher Evelyn Ashworth (Teacher Eve). An English Teacher from England who as taught for more than 40 years using methods. She has given me so much advice, covered with Billion kindness (Very nice to meet you). She is returning to England on February 10th, I feel so glad to have met her (thank God).
Teacher Evelyn Ashworth (with Moo moo and Rabbit puppet in her hands)

Refer to the picture above, all of the student pay an attention to her, and it's kind of motivation for me to be a teacher as like her..
She start the lesson by singing (to teach vocabulary for kids) and it's really worked.
She said that the important thing is repeat everyday, that's why if we use a song, kids will enjoy to repeat it.

There's a game that made me impressed how great is she. She pointed of her part of body and asked the student to say the name, after several time she made a repetition, she made it quicker and then change the sequence and all of those kids made a mistake (haha they thought it always on sequence). It's really work to make them stay focus.

She teach me to use only target language if you want to success at teaching language (in this case English), "don't underestimate a little thing" she said, although it's just only drink a water, she taught the student all of the vocabularies.
There are some rules that she use at the class, the most favorite one is "I speak, you see, you listen, and don't ever speak". it's to make the student discipline in every lesson.
She is the most creative person, she made a curriculum for kindergarten at this school and she made it really serious in case she will leave this school soon. (sad)
What a responsible thing that I learned from her.
this is my favorite quote from her "You can teach discipline by being nice", oh my Gosh, I thought that only punishment that will be the best way. thankyou so much for teaching me so much

I got a chance to observe any levels on Aroonpradit School (glad that this school consisted of every level from kindergarten to senior high school). yet it's because all of the teachers here are so friendly (Thank God). I'll give you all of advice from them cause it will be so helpful for those who want to be a good teacher!!!

*come to your student one by one to make them feeling involved with the lesson hence to check their understanding.
*focus on pronunciation and vocab
*ask them to answer all of the questions with a full sentence

Teacher Vincent A. Adole at Prathom (Elementary School)
*start with sing (to add some vocabulary) it can be part of body, animals, fruits, or others.
*make sure they quite first.
*review previous lesson
*start to make simple conversation.

AP fun method

It's nice to get my first class observation with Mrs. Melogine Venida (we called her Teacher Gine). She taught me that we have to make the students quite first before deliver our materials.

Gadget will always be the problem on teaching nowadays. and by collecting the gadget during the lesson it will help your students keep focus on your teaching.

The duration of each class and each subject is 50 minutes. Devides onto
5 minutes : Greetings and Checking attendance list.
5 minutes : Review previous lesson
5 minutes : Introduction of new material
20 minutes : Lesson proper
10 minutes : Exercise
5 minutes : Summary and task (homework)

Teacher Gine said we have to focus on pronunciation and intonation! I'm so impressed to her teaching methods which are using games to deliver the material, and yahh.. students interest on learning. and I can say that she use student centered because all of the student get involved to her lesson. refer to the picture below.

Aroonpradit School, everything's here!

Such as gift for me to get this school as my teaching practicum school. Lovely teachers, lovely students, has all of the levels from kindergarten to senior high school (and I got the opportunity to observe all of those levels) yeayy...

This school is located on Khlong Krachaeng, Mueang Phetchaburi, Phetchaburi (Thailand). This is Christian private school. In the morning there is ceremony and all of the student will gather at the main (front) field to have a pray, singing Thai anthem, Aroonpradit song and get some advice.

When I came to this school, they're filtering to every English books to be selected as teaching materials (oh my God they are selecting seriously from so many authors).

We have daily task (to be daily score) Mid term exam and Final term exam. The curriculum for English is "The Basic Education Core Curriculum BE 2551 (A.D 2008)". They broke it down on weekly teaching plans for a term.
